An abandoned hunger

Loneliness

An abandoned hunger
The need to belong
Growls in its grave
Deep within.

Yet empty the tomb of
Echoes of spirit
The voice of the word
Is hushed at the door.

With scream of a beast
Plead to the darkness
Ebony emptiness scornful.

Loneliness overwhelmed
Choking on nothingness
Breathe but do not live.

But he will hear.
He will hear.
Know he will.

He will knock and
Hunger abandon.

Many saints experienced loneliness. Sometimes this loneliness even included feeling abandoned by God.
